High-Purity Metal Refining

Advancing Metal Separation, Purification and Resource Recovery

We undertake research and technology development in high-purity metal production, the separation of complex metal mixtures, and the recovery of valuable metals from secondary resources.

Our work combines feedstock characterisation, process development and product quality control to support advanced materials manufacturing and the efficient use of metal resources.

In industrial production

A high-purity metal processing technology developed by our team entered industrial production in 2026.

Research Priorities

Purification of Complex Metal Feedstocks

For materials containing multiple metals, complex impurities or low concentrations of target elements, we develop staged impurity removal and selective separation processes. Each process is assessed against product specifications, recovery performance and processing costs.

High-Purity Metals and Functional Materials

We research trace impurity control, metal refining and product preparation for advanced manufacturing and functional materials applications. This includes developing quality control methods covering feedstock assessment, process monitoring and final product testing.

Recovery from Secondary Resources

We explore the recovery of useful metals from industrial by-products and manufacturing residues. Our aim is to improve resource utilisation and enable recovered metals to return to productive use.

02 / Technology

Technology Development

Process selection is guided by feedstock composition, the chemical and physical forms of the metals present, and the required product specifications. Our research explores individual technologies and integrated process routes.

01

Vacuum and Thermal Separation

We investigate vacuum distillation, selective volatilisation and staged condensation, exploiting differences in the volatility of metals and their compounds to achieve separation and concentration.

02

Selective Hydrometallurgical Separation

We study leaching, selective precipitation, solvent extraction and ion exchange to concentrate target metals and remove unwanted impurities.

03

Refining and Product Preparation

Depending on the intended application, we investigate chemical reduction, electrochemical refining and controlled thermal treatment to produce metals in suitable forms and grades.

04

Analytical Characterisation and Process Control

Elemental analysis, phase characterisation and material balances are used to assess metal recovery, impurity distribution and process consistency. These methods inform process optimisation and product quality assurance.

03 / Pathway

From Laboratory Research to Industrial Application

Our development approach begins with representative feedstocks and clearly defined application requirements. Promising processes are advanced through laboratory testing, scale-up studies and pilot validation before industrial implementation is considered.
